Grab a Corner: Finding Your Place in the Mission
Have you ever felt like a spectator in your own church? Perhaps you watch the Sunday service or attend events, but deep down, there is a nagging sense that you were meant for more than just a seat in the pew. You want to help, but you aren’t sure where you fit, or maybe you feel you lack the "special qualifications" to make a real difference.
If that sounds familiar, it’s time to stop watching the mission and start becoming the mission.
Beginning Wednesday, April 8th, we are launching a transformative four-week course called Grab a Corner. Based on the powerful story of the paralytic in Mark 2, this class is designed to help every member of our church find their unique calling, plug into a meaningful role, and experience the fulfillment that comes from serving others
.
The Vision: Four Friends, Four Corners
In the Gospel of Mark, we see a man in desperate need of Jesus. He couldn't get there on his own, and the crowd was too thick to push through.
"And they came, bringing to him a paralytic carried by four men." (Mark 2:3, ESV)
This is the "Grab a Corner" philosophy. The mission of bringing people to Christ is too heavy for one or two people to lift. It requires shared, simple, and dedicated action. When four friends each grabbed a corner of that mat, they moved a life toward a miracle. Our church works the same way. When everyone picks up their "corner"—whether that is hospitality, administration, prayer, or maintenance—the heavy lifting becomes light, and the lost find their way to the Savior.
What to Expect Over the 4 Weeks
This isn't just another lecture series. It is a practical workshop designed to move you from the sidelines to the front lines. Here is how we will spend our four Wednesdays together:
Week 1: The Mat and the Mission
We begin by shifting our perspective. You will learn to identify the "crowds" and obstacles—like fear or indifference—that keep people from Jesus. We will debunk the myth that you need a seminary degree to serve. The four friends didn't need titles; they needed resolve. You’ll discover why your presence isn't just optional—it’s necessary.
Week 2: Identifying Your Corner
Once you understand the need, we help you find your "grip." Through a simple spiritual gifts assessment and self-reflection, we will help you match your natural passions to the specific needs of our church. Whether you are a teacher, a doer, or an encourager, there is a corner of the mat with your name on it.
Week 3: Holding Your Corner Firmly
Service is a marathon, not a sprint. This week focuses on the "sweat equity" of ministry. We will discuss how to sustain your commitment, set healthy boundaries to prevent burnout, and how to find the minimal training you need to be effective. You’ll learn that we don’t train to become "qualified"—we train to be excellent for the Kingdom.
Week 4: The Result: Healing and Fulfillment
In the final week, we celebrate the "why." When the friends lowered the man through the roof, Jesus didn't just heal his legs; He forged a relationship. We will explore how your service creates a ripple effect in our community and how "getting plugged in" is actually the secret to finding your own spiritual joy.
